Manuels River Trilobite

Description

A friend gave me this piece and how happy I was! You can no longer collect specimens from Manuels River, as it is a protected site. More about Manuels trilobites:

The trilobites of the Avalon Peninsula are quite different from those that lived at the same time in western Newfoundland. This is because the species evolved differently in these two regions which at the time were separated by thousands of kilometers across the Lapetus Ocean. Western Newfoundland was located near the equator in warm shallow waters, while eastern Newfoundland was in a higher latitude, covered with cool, deep water.

The most detailed study of fossils of the Conception Bay area was that undertaken by Professor B. F. Howell of Princeton University. He collected 15,000 specimens in 1919 and published his findings in his PhD thesis in 1925.

Manuels River is an internationally known site for fossilized trilobites and they can be found in the shale beds along the lower section of the river.

careful about the trilobites lamorth. 70% of the world's faked fossils are trilobites. i don't really agree with "Awesome price too, but you get what you pay for." i've been cheated before, and it really doesn't feel good. this world is filled with many bad people, so really watch out, especially beginners!!

this is what my friend/trilobite master told me while i was seeking advice.

"The good news is you are seeking my advice. Now to steer you toward the fossils that you can look at twenty years from now with a sense of pride. The moment you begin to acquire true world-class bugs you will never even consider the mediocre cheap stuff again. Remember 10 junkers usually equal one fine fossil.

Quality first and the quantity will follow. "

ANYWAYS........ chrissy, that's a very nice addition to your collection. ;)
